Girl Detective Club is not a very good anime
Girl Detective Club, a forgotten VHS relic that might be the worst anime ever. Is this 1986 disaster the ultimate bad anime or a misunderstood retro gem? In this anime review, I break down the lackluster story of Shizuka, Midori, and their so-called "detective" adventures at St. Gotham’s Women’s Academy—complete with Scooby-Doo-style chase scenes, a giant ship chase, and zero detective work. Spoiler: it’s not Detective Conan!
Originally mascot characters from Out magazine, Girl Detective Club somehow got its own anime by TMS Entertainment, directed by Masaharu Okuwaki and created by Isamu Aguchi. But don’t let the VHS grit fool you—this isn’t a hidden classic like California Crisis or Bomber Bikers of Shonan. With flat characters, terrible animation, and a plot thinner than a worn-out tape, this might be the worst anime of all time. Watch my retro anime deep dive to find out why I’d rather watch Chargeman Ken memes than this again!
